MongoDB Day KL - 2013

-- 10gen Visit Malaysia for Co-Working Session at Nook --

Co-Working Vs Co-Presenting What is NoSQL Asia? NoSQL Asia Conference?

With MongoDB Beijing complete, Mathias Stern (from 10gen) popped-over to Kuala Lumpur for a visit.

The moment I heard that 10gen would be visiting, I wanted to try something different. My primary place of work is from a co-working space in Bangsar called Nook, which is why I probably wanted to experiment with a day of co-working. Daniel Yap, the owner of Nook was gracious enough to open his space for the day and allow us to run a day and evening of events.

As is usually universal, and perhaps amplified here in South East Asia a hundred-fold, group participation during Q&A sessions at the end of technical talks is usually a completely silent affair. What we did that day was to create an environment for people to come and work. We spoke to every person on several occasions to point out the community experts and 10gen engineer, and between us, we were extremely busy all day long talking and helping those with questions, problems or doubts. Mathias had barely a moment to himself that day and by the evening time, after the fabulous dinner was served and swag was handed out, everyone knew everyone else, and the questions and answers continued to flow. Most certainly a success, and something I look forward to doing again soon.

The two presentations that did take place in the evening are now published on the 10gen website.

The presentation from Mathias on Full Text Search and Advanced Aggregation was a live demo, which needed to be experienced live!
